This report is based on the information I’ve gathered from the previous tasks (PAT phases 1 and 2). I am going to look at ways by which tourism can be strengthened and how it can be advantageous in local communities. I have gathered more relevant information from the previous phases and in this phase I’m going to conclude by looking and grouping my findings in an appropriate manner and format which will assist tourists during their tour. I will report back by typing at least 10 pages and use the relevant tool (Microsoft Word) to present my findings.

According to the research I made most of the tourists attractions identified are situated in the Gauteng region (in Katlehong, Soweto, and Newtown). They are used as a source for employment, the economic growth and they are used when fundraising. These attraction sites are also used during special events such as picnics and when people need to enjoy themselves. Among the 15+ people I interviewed all interviewees seem to know where tourist attractions are situated in our community. To determine the number of these places the people I interviewed suggested searching for places that are mostly visited by tourists, gathering the details of such places, and conducting a survey as one of the options. If these tourist attractions were not in our communities a number of concerns would be at presence. Such concerns involve the following: The Economy – It wouldn’t grow if tourist sites were not around. Job Creation – It wouldn’t be easy for people to find jobs. The Environment and the Community Development – It would take a lot of time for communities to develop, etc.

Tourism plays a major role in when it comes to the restructuring of the economy as it can either cause it to drop or even boost it. Such a role brings about good opportunities to the local people and also the tourists visiting that particular area. The economy is made to drop at some stages due to tourists who come and vandalize the resources of the place they are visiting. However, with such behaviour being ignored, tourism plays a big part in job creation (employments) thus opening doors for both skilled and unskilled workers. According to the research I made it is revealed that there are numerous factors which can be easily identified as possible causes of the drop in economy.

It is wiser to ask and find more information about the tour before tourist come to visit a place. This way you are guaranteed to provide them with exactly that which they want. Such confirmation gives room to mutual agreements between the organizers and also the tourists. You are able to know if they prefer the less expensive place to stay or not. This also makes it possible for tourists to feel at home and to feel welcomed in any home (or accommodation). Tourists usually spend their money in items specially unique to the places they visit. Such items are used as memories after the tour. According to the research, it does cut cost if you prepare a small event that can be more enjoyable as this is a way to avoid stressing about the cost of living during the tour. We can be able to organize a list of phrase and words tourists can use as a guide in hotels or the accommodation they are using.

The promotion of goods and products of that particular area. Increase of commerce through exporting goods and services. Direct employment.

Littering. Traffic congestion and pollution. Local goods become expensive and tourist can’t pay more. Demand for development of more shops and hotels. Jobs are mainly seasonal, low paid with long hours. Crime rate increases.

Tourism is not an activity that most people participate in, especially South Africans. We’re usually keener when it comes to sporting events such as soccer. However, tourism like any other event aimed to raise funds plays a huge role in our lives and whenever we have an opportunity to entertain tourists we are able to do that. With this, it is therefore our responsibility to ensure that we as South Africans live to encourage and support tourism. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we need to spend a lot of money but it means we can be able to do this by being one (as a community, a country or even the continent – Africa). It is also essential and virtually crucial that we start campaign through which we inform people about tourism, i.e. its advantages, disadvantages and all the other effects it has on us. I recommend that we take every chance we get to our advantage. This means that we need to start selling goods that can give us income so as to survive. We need to start visiting other places and get to how other people are living, learn and have fun in the process.

In phase 1 I conducted a survey and an interview which I used to gather information to find out what people think about tourism. I then went on to interview 15+ people (on the database) to have more input. I used relevant tools such as Microsoft Word for these interviews and surveys and went on to Microsoft Excel for a graph to present my findings in the second phase.15+ people graph In phase 2 I planned for the last phase of the PAT and used Microsoft Word and Excel. I then used the internet to find more information and also to find more evidence. I then had to visit the Katlehong Art Centre to find out more about the place and to ask questions to prepare for phase 3. In doing this I got to learn about teamwork and also to be able to promote businesses (both locally and internationally). Doing phase 3 became easier because I only need Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and also the internet (which I used) to gather information to guide tourists and South African inhabitants.
