1 The Coordinate System and Descriptive Geometry
How it relates to Inventor

2 Topic Defined What is a Coordinate System What is Descriptive Geometry
Coordinates are a set of values that show an exact position on an x and y plane. The first number shows the distance horizontally and the second number shows the distance vertically up or down. Descriptive geometry is a representation of three-dimensional objects in two dimensions, by using a specific set of procedures, using the x, y and z planes. The techniques are important for engineering, architecture, design and in art.

3 Axis used in the Coordinate System
The y-axis Will always be a vertical line. X- axis Will always be a horizontal line.

4 Quadrants in the Coordinate System
X is negative Y is positive (-x, y) Quadrant 1 X is positive Y is positive (x, y) X Quadrant 3 X is negative Y is negative (-x, -y) Quadrant 4 X is positive Y is negative (x, -y)

5 Plotting Point on the Coordinate System
PLOT THE POINTS 5 , 1 -5 , 5 -3 , -2 1 , -3 X

6 Plot the Point for each object

7 Descriptive Geometry Is a 3D object on a 2D surface.

8 Coordinate System for Descriptive Geometry

9 Continue working on handout

10 Conclusion What is the purpose of the coordinate system?
Shows a point on a plane at its exact position using the x and y coordinates. How does the Z-axis relate to the X and Y axis? X-axis shows width of an object. Y-axis shows height of an object. Z-axis shows depth of an object.
