Science Tuesday January 12 th 2016

Warm Up Bring your notebook, pencil, and agenda to your desk Complete Tuesday’s warm up now YOU ARE QUIET, WORKING WHEN THE BELL RINGS

Test…. You will have a 20 question multiple choice test tomorrow! Study, Study, Study!!!!! Make sure you have this in your agenda now!

4 Layers of the Earth –which layer is most dense?

4 Layers of the Earth –which layer is least dense?

4 Layers of the Earth –which layer is thinnest?

4 Layers of the Earth –which layer is thickest?

4 Layers of the Earth –which layer has convection currents?

Today’s Agenda Earth’s Magnetic Field! You will access today’s article via your chromebook Complete foldable from yesterday – cutting out labels and gluing them down Gluing down all items given back today from teacher

Chromebooks today… You will be dismissed to get your chromebooks You will access the teacher wiki page Click on the 2015-2016 link and wait for instructions

Today’s Focus You will select the article as shown by the teacher You will read this article and then answer the questions at the bottom in your interactive notebook Questions are in the Brain Check box in the lower right corner You will have 20 minutes to complete the reading and questions How do we answer questions in 6 th grade? We answer everything in complete sentences!!!!!

Let’s Review Now! What produces the Earth’s magnetic Field? The Earth’s magnetic field comes from the core; the liquid outer core contains electrical charges. This liquid outer core layer moves as the planet moves (rotation and revolution) that produces a magnetic field that extends out into space.

Let’s Review Now! What does the Earth’s magnetic field protect us from? The Earth’s magnetic field helps protect the planet from the solar wind or charged particles coming from the Sun.

Let’s Review Now! How is Earth’s magnetic field changing? The Earth’s magnetic poles shift over 1000’s of years and the poles most recently reversed about 780,000 years ago. Scientists state the Earth’s magnetic field appears to be weakening.

Video to explain it even more….. Link for Earth’s Magnetic Field Discovery Ed “Earth is a Giant Magnetic” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv7zT953290

Foldable: Cutting and Gluing You will cut out each section of the foldable (follow along) Now glue each section beginning with the crust at the top of your page

The lithosphere is made up of the crust and the upper portion of the mantle (where tectonics plates are found). The asthenosphere is the region where mantle rocks move through convection currents.

Everything glued down? If you have all items glued down in your notebook then you can access the ppt on the teacher wiki page Items needed in notebook: Notes from ppt Video with questions 4 corners Rap lyrics Pop quiz 3 questions from Textbook readings Slice of Earth Ed Helper / Earth’s structure worksheet Earth’s layers foldable and fact sheet

BrainPop Video Review “The Earth’s Structure” You will now watch the video on BrainPop User: jms Password: jaguars Type in search box: Earths Structure After watching the video, take the classic quiz and record your score in your interactive notebook

Remaining time…. http://interactivesites.weebly.com/earths-structure.html Once you have finished BrainPop, go back to the teacher wiki page and click on the link “Interactive link for Tuesday Jan 12 th 2016” You will click on each site to review

Music Video Mr. Lee “Layers of the Earth” Earth's Layers
