2. Are The Younger Children More Likely to be The Victims of The Child Abuse than The Older Children?

3. Child abuse happened every single day to a million children everywhere. The purpose of my study is to determine if the children younger than 8 years old more likely to be the victims of the child abuse than the children older than 8 years old in the United States.

4. The reason for this study is to make people aware that abuse is happening, and since the younger children can’t defend themselves they are more likely to be abused. Working as a nanny,I saw so many cases of child abuse, and the helpless children can’t do anything. When you report them, a caregiver would usually lie and get away with it.

5. The population that I will use for my study are the children age 0 – 17 in the United States. I will be using the entire population of the children age 0 – 17 from 2007 – 2009 year. There will be no use of randomization in this study because I will be working with the entire population of the children in the United States.

6. I expect that this analysis will indicate that there is a significant differences of child abuse between children age younger and older then 8, during the years indicated. But, I do not know if that will be manifested within the study.

7. The statistics used in my study will be counts of all reports of abused children age 0 – 17 in each of the years in the study. These values can be found in the pdf file attached. There is one outliner, and that is unknown age of the children in the reports. That makes sense because we can’t sort them out in any of the category. The table that follows represent the descriptive statistics used in my study.

For this study I will use a 2 sample Hypothesis test using Data from the table, at the 0.01 significant level, to test the claim that the children younger than 8 years old are more likely to be the victims of child abuse than the children older than 8. Ho: μ 1 = μ 2 Ha: μ 1 > μ 2 P – value = 6.4597216E-4 P – value < α (0.01) – Reject Ho

10. There is sufficient evidence to reject the claim that there is no difference of child abuse between the children younger than 8 years old and the children older than 8 years old at the 0.01 significance level. Therefore, the claim that the younger children are more likely to be abused is TRUE.

11. The graph shows a visual presentation of the differences of the abused children younger and older than 8, in percentage. This is the best graph because it shows that not just the younger children are more abused, but also that nothing much is changing during the three years.

12. The results of the study shows that younger children are more likely to be the victims of child abuse. Which was my assumption in the beginning of the study. The internet database helped me a lot. All data was obtained from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (www.acf.hhs.gov). The information was clear and concise. This was a significant factor of eliminating any trouble spots during my study. With the methods learned in class, along with TI-83 Plus, Excel and PowerPoint, I was able to do this project easily.www.acf.hhs.gov

13. The statistical data leads us to reject Null Hypothesis, but it also support my thoughts. The study leads to the questions of why the children younger than 8 years old are more likely to be the victims. Why in the three years nothing is changing? Does region, parental, and poverty involved play the part in outcome. This and many other questions came to me after this study. In the end, this project was very good practice for my future studies, and a great experience. I would thank my professor T.Cann for teaching and showing statistics in a different way.
