11/29 Bell Ringer 1.Grab today’s materials 2.Get out your homework 3.Classify the following triangle and find a and b. 45° a 8m b

Bell Ringer Answer/Review First find a 180 – 135 = 45° = a Now you can classify the triangle –Right angle, so RIGHT –2 congruent angles, so ISOSCELES –Therefore, we have a RIGHT ISOSCELES TRIANGLE. Then find b Since isosceles, two sides congruent, so if one is 8m, the other is 8m. B = 8m

11/29 News and Notes Welcome back! This week’s schedule: Today: Review last week Tues: Triangle Inequality Conjecture Wed: Isosceles Triangle Deep Dive Thurs: Review and quiz Fri: No school (for students) YELLOW PAPERS TODAY AFTER SCHOOL!

11/29 Agenda I CAN review last week’s three objectives on classifying triangles and finding missing angles. 1.Bell Ringer 2.New Material – Review of last week’s problem 3.Guided Practice 4.Independent Practice 5.ACT Question

New Material The purpose of this activity is to review all the essential pieces that you may have missed or you could’ve been confused by last week 42° a b Y X Z W 25° 7 in c in

First misconception: Finding angles 1. Place a heart at 2. Place a lightning bolt at 3. Place a explosion at 4. Place a cloud at 42° a b Y X Z W 25° 7 in c in

2 nd misconception: Classifying triangles 1. What type of triangle is ΔXZW? –All acute angles, so ACUTE –2 congruent sides, so ISOSCELES –Therefore, ACUTE ISOSCELES 2. What type of triangle is ΔZWY? –1 obtuse angle, so OBTUSE –NO congruent sides, so SCALENE –Therefore, OBTUSE SCALENE 42° a b Y X Z W 25° 7 in c in

2 nd misconception: Classifying triangles 3. What type of triangle is ΔXZY? –1 obtuse angle, so OBTUSE –NO congruent sides, so SCALENE –Therefore, OBTUSE SCALENE 42° a b Y X Z W 25° 7 in c in

3 rd misconception: Finding missing angles based on classification. 1. Find a –KNOW: ΔXZW is isosceles –Therefore a = 42° 2. Find b –KNOW: ΔXZW is isosceles –KNOW: 2 angles add to 84 –Therefore 180 – 84 = b = 96° 3. Find c –KNOW: XW = WY –Therefore, if XW = 7 in, WY = c = 7 in. 42° a b Y X Z W 25° 7 in c in

Now what do I do? If you missed last Wednesday, fill in vocab then start independent practice If you were here last Wednesday (great choice!) you can start the Independent Practice and you probably won’t have homework. DUE TOMORROW: 11/24 and 11/29 IP!

VOCABULARY!!!! Equilateral Triangle 3 congruent sides and angles Isosceles Triangle At least 2 congruent sides and angles Scalene Triangle NO congruent sides or angles.

ACT Problem of the Day Which choice below best describes the triangle below? A.Acute scalene B.Acute isosceles C.Obtuse scalene D.Right scalene E.Obtuse isosceles
