4 Why are “eyes” a central image of this poem and what do “eyes” have to do with desire? “You fit into me/like a hook into an eye” shows that there is always violence associated with love and that the connection that people have with each other can be painful and can stab you like a fishhook in an open eye. The imagery of the poem is important because it also reveals a theme. “Fish hook” is something that can be hurtful and also kill. “Eye” are something that we see with. So it would be very painful to get stabbed in the eye with one of these fish hooks. Therefore “fish hook” is significant because it shows imagery.
