Severe Weather (Storms)

Air Masses – large body of air with similar humidity and temperature. Classified by surface over which they form. Maritime form over water while Continental forms over continents.

Warm front forms when warm air comes into an area of cold air. Gradual movement and very low slope producing stratus clouds and light to moderate precipitation.

Cold Front forms when cold air comes into an area of warm air. Faster moving and much steeper, forceful cloud formation leading to high winds a heavy precipitation.

Forecast the weather along the East Coast.

Isobars show pressure gradient and wind direction.

Tornado formation High pressure air collides with low pressure air. Cumulonimbus clouds form by increased updraft.

Tornado Formation Continued. Mesocyclone forms by vortex movement and tornado forms. WOW!

Tornadoes are measured by Fujita Scale.

Does Montana have Tornadoes?

The ingredients are all there.
