3. Osborne would be a better company commander than Stanhope. Act 2 Osborne can command a company better than Stanhope because he’ s older and knows that he is going to die in the war Osborne doesn’t make any of the officers feel down like Stanhope does and realises that all officers know what to write in there letters, also he feels that as none of the other officers in C company have their letters censored then Raleigh shouldn’t just because Stanhope knows him.page46 - 47 Osborne was asking Stanhope about the raid and wanted to know everything “who was going “, “when”, “wanted to know why Raleigh was going”, “what time”. Page59 – 60 Osborne told trotter but told him not to tell Raleigh about it. As he wanted to tell him himself. Act 3 Stanhope treats Raleigh and Hibbert poorly. Doesn’t treat Raleigh any better after he’s done the raid and told Stanhope that Osborne’s dead. Makes Hibbert think that he’s one of the group of officers again and is Stanhope’s friend, Doesn’t last long because of one sentence “well you’d better go to bed” page 86 Starts to fight only on adrenalin and not when he’s drunk when Raleigh dies.

6. Act 1 I totally disagree Stanhope take much more care of things Takes much more care of this as it says on page 17 “ The tall figure is Captain Stanhope. His dark hair is carefully brushed: is uniform, though old and war stained, is well cut and cared for ” He is a vicars son so he must be a good man Stanhope is very organised and efficient as he tells everyone where they are going for there shift and what time and also that Mason will wake them up at the right time He ’ s been awarded an MC to show his bravery on page 28 He ’ s been promoted to Company Commander in just 3 years on page 6 Everyone looks up to Stanhope. Even Osborne does too Raleigh looks up to him as a hero. He ’ s like his idol Act 2 Stanhope has more common sense than Osborne. He seems cleverer. “ We ’ ll wire ourselves right in. If this attack comes. I ’ m not going to trust the companies on our aides to hold their ground. ” Page 40 It ’ s Osborne asking Stanhope what to do and it should be the other way round. “ What are you going to do ” Osborne talking to Stanhope on page 42 Osborne doesn ’ t want Stanhope to look through Raleigh ’ s letter before he sends it but Stanhope knows he has to do what ’ s right and can ’ t leave out the letter just because it somebody he knows. He has to do his duty and do his job. “ Officially I ’ m supposed to read all your letters. ” Page 44 The colonel talks to Stanhope about the raid and not Osborne. Stanhope has the job of telling everyone. Act 3 Osborne has died and now Stanhope is looking after Raleigh and taking care of him.

8. 1.He’s level headed and caring. 2.He’s older than Stanhope and therefore has more a lot of experience in things like “rugger” that may help him with tactics in the war. 3.Osborne is very organised with things like the “log book” this is shown when he first arrives. He is use to controlling people from being a head-teacher. 1.He’s been there for a long time and therefore has a lot of experience. 2.He’s respected by other officers and soldiers, and therefore has a lot of command and control over them. 3.He was awarded an MC for bravery which shows he must be a good fighter, he was also looked up to at school by Raleigh which implies he is a good leader.
