2 Description: A New drug that had started popping up in Russia in 2002 and started to pop up in the U.S. around 2013 The life span of a Krokodil addict is just a year or 2 Krokodil is also used in countries such as Germany, Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Norway

3 Slang Names: Krokodil’s scientific name is not really Krokodil, it’s scientific name is Desomorphine. Krokodil is the primary slang name for this drug. It is also called the “Zombie Drug” due to the fact that it can rapidly eat away at human flesh.

4 Ways of entering the body: Injection is the only way of entering the body.

5 Effects: Krokodil has an effect that is 8 to 10 times stronger than morphine Lasts for 2 hours Withdrawal is much worse than heroin, can result in a month of unbearable pain “It causes serious damage to the veins and soft tissue infections, rapidly followed by gangrene and necrosis, severe mutilations, rotting gums, bone infections, decayed structure of the jaw and facial bones, sores and ulcers on the forehead and skull as well as rotting ears, noses and lips and liver and kidney problems.” (huffingtonpost.com)

6 Medical Use: Krokodil does not have any medical uses Krokodil has the ability to shorten the human life-span to only a couple years, addict would be lucky to survive over 2 years

7 Facts/Statistics: 65,000,000 doses of Krokodil were seized in the first three months of 2011 About one million people in Russia use Krokodil according to New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Russia is where Krokodil is most commonly abused around the world

8 3 Interesting Facts: Krokodil gets it’s name because the user of the drug’s skin becomes green and bumpy and has a scaly look to it, like a crocodile. Doctors dealing with addicts use extremely strong tranquilizers so the addict does not pass out from pain Krokodil is a fairly new drug, it appeared in 2002
