3. What is same-sex marriage? Same sex marriage is when two people of the same gender become married legally.

5. What is homophobia? Homophobia is “prejudice against (fear or dislike of) homosexual people and homosexualit y.”

6. Different Types of Homophobia Personal - the personal belief that lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are sinful, immoral, sick, and inferior to heterosexuals, or incomplete women and men. Interpersonal - the fear, dislike or hatred of people believed to be lesbian, gay or bisexual. Institutional - the many ways in which government, businesses, churches, and other institutions and organizations discriminate against people on the basis of sexual orientation. Cultural - social standards and norms, which dictate that being heterosexual is better or more moral than being lesbian, gay, or bisexual, and that everyone is heterosexual or should be.

7. Results of Homophobia It hurts everyone by causing rigid gender-based roles, heterosexual men to constantly prove their masculinity, and human integrity to be compromised. It discourages individuals from taking part in certain social activities. It pressures young people to become heterosexually active to prove to themselves and others that they are normal. It prevents authentic self identity. It inhibits appreciation of other types of diversity.

9. Religion and Homophobia Catholics do not support gay/lesbian marriage because it was shunned upon in the bible. Christians also do not support same-sex marriage because of the potential impact on integrity of the family structure. Jews, Protestants, Muslims and Mormons aren’t as against it same- sex marriage or have as strict beliefs like the catholic religion. They think it is bad but it is not shunned upon.
