1 Circle Measurement Mathematical Pi Song

2  With a partner, you will need 3 circular objects, string or measuring tape, ruler, and scissors. 1. Choose an object and measure the circumference (distance around) using either string or measuring tape. Measure the radius and diameter of the object. Record these measures in a table. 3. Repeat the activity for the remaining objects. 4. Answer the following questions. a)Beside each object in your chart, calculate... - circumference ÷ diameter - circumference ÷ radius b)How is the diameter related to the circumference? How is the radius related to the circumference? Object Circumference (cm) Radius (cm)Diameter (cm)C ÷ dC ÷ r

3  The circumference of a circle is approximately 3 times its diameter.    The ratio of the circumference to the diameter is constant for any circle. This is called pi ( ).  The value for is approximately 3.14. Videos  Quick animation showing the diameter/circumference relationship Quick animation showing the diameter/circumference relationship  Khan Academy: Radius, Diameter, Circumference, Pi Khan Academy: Radius, Diameter, Circumference, Pi

4 1/ Ruha plans to put some plastic edging around her circular fish pond. The diameter of the pond is 5m. Find the amount of plastic edging that Ruha will need. Round the answer to the nearest meter. 2/ The circumference of a circular table is 4.2m. What is the radius of the table? Round to the nearest centimetre.
