15. Georgia During WWII 30. How did Georgians ration their supplies to support the war effort? Georgians donated their blood, sacrificed consumption of luxuries and goods. Scrap metal was collected and recycled. Victory gardens were planted to free up farm produced food for soldiers. 15

17. Georgia During WWII 32. How did Georgia help with the POW situation? German, Austrian and Italian soldiers captured during the war were provided housing in Georgia. At one point in time over 4,000 prisoners were located in GA, sometimes hired out to work farms or given educational opportunities. Some former European prisoners chose to stay in Georgia and make it their permanent home. They felt it offered a better life. 17
