6. St. Flannan lived around the seventh century. He was the son of an Irish King named Turlough. In his youth Flannan was placed in the care of St. Blathmet who was a great teacher and knew a lot about the bible. Children of Irish nobility were sent for miles to study with him. Saint Flannan.

7. St. Flannan entered a monastery at Killaloe called Molua, where he worked very hard. One day after he had been baking for 36 hours, a heavenly light shone from his left hand, lighting up the darkness helping him to finish his work. When the Abbot found out about this he was so pleased that he decided to retire and he made St. Flannan Abbot of the monastery.

8. The people of Thomond agreed that Flannan should become bishop, so Flannan made a trip to Rome where he received this special gift from Pope John IV. When St. Flannan returned to Ireland, all the people of his region, Killaloe, came to meet him. They were eager to learn the instructions he had brought back from the Pope of Rome.

9. One day before St. Flannan died he gathered around him special people and told them the importance of observing justice, especially human justice and he encouraged them to live in peace with one another. Saint Flannan`s feast day is December 18 th. St Flannan’s Cathedral

10. Home, Parish and School Saint Flannan brings our school, parish and home life together as one. We are a special community trying to follow the Gospel Values. Particularly the values of Justice and Peace.

11. Jesus said to his followers in the Sermon on the Mount: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God. As a community we can show peace in every are of our life, in our families, in our school and in the wider community.

12. St. Flannan knew the importance of Justice in the lives of people. He was imitating Jesus when he asked his followers to show Justice. When we show justice we show love and concern for our neighbour, particularly the poor.

13. In school we can show justice by respecting the rights of those around us and acting responsibly towards others. In school we can show concern for the poor and act to help the poor in many different ways.

14. Jesus asks us all to live in peace and justice with our neighbour. When we show justice to our neighbours in the playground, in the classroom, at home or in the community, we find peace in our hearts. Justice brings people together because we forget the little arguments that often divide and separate us.

15. St Flannan wanted his community to be a strong community based on love and respect for each other and a community that lived in peace. Do we help our community of St Flannan’s to be a place of peace and justice through our actions? Do we show respect to our neighbour?

16. Sometimes we need to look at our lives – is there anything we can change?

17. Class Do you treat people the way you want to be treated? Are you respectful to your classmates? Do you share with others? Are you patient with others in your class?

18. Playground Do you call people names in the playground? Do you include new children in your school? Do you help your school and the environment? Do you let children play with you and your friends?

19. Friends Are we kind to everyone? Are we loyal to our friends? Do we make fun of people who can’t do things right? Are we jealous of what other people have?

20. Are you rude to your family? Do you say please and thank you to those who help you? Do you thank God for keeping a roof over your head? Are you helpful around the house? Do you thank God for your family? Home

21. Response Lord, hear our prayer.

22. Dear God, We thank you for giving us peace. Help us to spread peace at home and at school by loving and caring for one another. Help us to spread peace by listening to one another, even when we don’t agree. Help us to spread peace by sharing our time with those who are lonely and who need a friend. Help us to spread peace by thinking and praying for children who have no food or who are frightened and live in fear. Let us pray everyday for peace for our families, for our friends and for ourselves. Amen.
