14 The Antarctic Ice Sheet Contains most of the earths's freshwater. The ice sheet rises to over 4000 m. If it completely melted, sea level would rise by about 65 m. Ice is 2 miles thick in some areas. The figure at right is based on a composite of satellite images. Courtesy T. Scambos, NSIDC
