3 Post Apocalyptic Post apocalyptic films are almost always set in a location that has recently suffered from awful destruction. These films are usually concerned with end of human civilization, this is usually result of pandemic, supernatural phenomena, impact event etc. Often uses a lot of establishing shots to show audience extent of the destruction/disaster. Uses a lot of low key lighting and blue/grey lighting to reflect the mood of the film.

4 Social Realism Usually social realism films are set within a city that is run down and troublesome, which represents the social group negatively. These settings are usually unseen in other film genres especially mainstream. For example Kidulthood a film based in the unseen west London council estates where unsavoury things occur.

Narrative: A story about a troubled boy growing up in England, set in He comes across a few skinheads on his way home from school, after a fight. They become his new best friends even like family. Based on experiences of director Shane Meadows. Director: Shane Meadows

6 Train spotting Social realism
Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends. Director: Danny Boyle

Narrative: An illegal Nigerian immigrant discovers the unpalatable side of London life. Director: Stephen Frears This film uses dark lighting to show the mood of the film this helps portray the genre of the film. The Characters are typical characters of a social realism, Weak characters that have some sort of trouble going on.

Narrative:Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure. Uses establishing shots to show extent of the devastation also uses low key lighting. Director- Francis Lawrence

10 Day after tomorrow Post apocalytic
Narrative:A climatologist tries to figure out a way to save the world from abrupt global warming. He must get to his young son in New York, which is being taken over by a new ice age Low key lighting, desaturated. Characters wear normal everyday clothes, uses a lot of establishing shots to show the devastation. Director: Roland Emmerich

11 The Road Post apocalyptic
A post-apocalyptic tale of a man and his son trying to survive by any means possible. Director: John Hilcot Uses low key lighting to set the mood and help enhance the eerie feeling of the film.
