2. VARIABLES
Manipulated Variable-Materials wrapped around the egg (Bubble wrap, packing peanuts, towels, and cotton balls)
Responding Variable-The damage caused to the egg
Controlled Variable-The height the egg is dropped from

3. Problem:
How does different materials affect how bad the egg breaks when dropped on linoleum from 3 feet 8 inches high?

4. Hypothesis:
As I drop an egg wrapped in bubble wrap, packing peanuts, towels, then cotton balls on linoleum then I think the egg wrapped in bubble wrap will keep the egg the safest because bubble wrap is specifically made to protect fragile items.

5. Materials: 1 dozen eggs Ruler Bubble Wrap Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Packing Peanuts Tape
Towels Scissors
Cotton Balls Surface: linoleum

6. Procedure: 1. Set up. (See Diagram)
2. Drop egg with bubble wrap from four feet high.
3. Observe then record what the egg looks like on the data table.
4. Repeat with new egg for two more trials.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with other materials.
6. Clean up mess.
7. Safety Tips: Be careful with hot glue the tip is HOT

8. CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, the best material for the egg to be kept in , in order to keep it from breaking was______. My hypothesis was “As I drop an egg wrapped in bubble wrap , packing peanuts, towels, and cotton balls then I think the egg wrapped in bubble wrap will keep the egg the safest because bubble wrap is specifically made to protect fragile items.” My hypothesis was______.

9. Background Information
Bubble wrap was invented by two engineers, Marc Chanvannes and Al Fielding.
Packing peanuts are made of polystyrene and polymers. Polymers are long chained molecules made of smaller individual units known as monomers.
The first people to grow cotton was for clothing sheets and towels. These people were the Harappan people in India in about 2500 B.C.

10. How could this experiment benefit to you?
This could benefit to you because if your taking your eggs out of the fridge and you accidentally drop the carton, what would be best for the carton to be made of or for the eggs to be packed in so that they are less likely to break.
