4 #10 08 August 2014 The “Deuteronomistic History,” according to scholarly theory, was written after the fact during the reign of King Josiah ( B.C.). Thus Deuteronomy, as the very words of Moses, is a “pious fraud.” The scholarly theory is that Josiah's political supporters created the book ("D") and merged it with the tribal histories of the southern (“J”) and northern (“E”) kingdoms to create a “national history” ("JED"). Later after Judah lost its independence, priestly rulers in Jerusalem added "P” material to complete Deuteronomy through 2 Kings as we have it today. Deuteronomy 17:15, be sure to appoint over you the king* the LORD your God chooses. He must be from among your own brothers. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not a brother Israelite. … When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites. *the assumption is that this is King Josiah GRATSI Torah - Moses' Farewell
