2. Why and how does a Tsunami happen?
Any of these four events that happen underwater that cause an uplift in the ocean floor causing the water to push up and create a tsunami the size of the uplift.
The four things that can cause a tsunami are: a submarine landslide, earthquake, meteorite impact, or a volcanic eruption.

3. Where They can happen in lakes that are very large or in any oceans.
Tsunamis occur in deep water then as they travel to shallower waters they get grow much larger in height.

4. Risks Houses can be flooded or even destroyed.
Many people are killed either by drowning or by being killed on wave impact.
Buildings can collapse and fall on people or even trap people.

5. Records Lituya bay, Alaska had a tsunami of over 1700 feet.
It was caused by a landslide on one side of the bay and it was sent to the other.
The earthquake that generated the great Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 is estimated to have released the energy of 23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs. This tsunami killed over 200,000 people.

6. Current Event
On March 11 an 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan and a tsunami was caused which devastated the area. The death toll is at 3,300 as of Tuesday March 15. Over 10,000 people are missing. The wave was 30 feet high and traveled as far as 5 km inland.

7. Rescue
There have been rescue efforts sent from multiple countries including the U.S.
The U.S. sent an aircraft carrier to rescue people and also supply shelter to some people.
The British have gone into multiple countries trying to rescue people and have succeeded.

8. Destruction The whole country is in distress because of the tsunami.
The whole country though was not affected. It mainly affected the island of Honshu. It also disrupted the nuclear power plants.
Many houses were destroyed, people were killed, and the land was flattened and contaminated with debris.
