2 I dwell with a strangely aching heart
In that vanished abode there far apart On that disused and forgotten road That has no dust-bath now for the toad. Night comes; the black bats tumble and dart; 15 It is under the small, dim, summer star. I know not who these mute folk are Who share the unlit place with me-- Those stones out under the low-limbed tree Doubtless bear names that the mosses mar They are tireless folk, but slow and sad, Though two, close-keeping, are lass and lad,-- With none among them that ever sings, And yet, in view of how many things, As sweet companions as might be had. 30 Ghost House by Robert Frost I Dwell in a lonely house I know That vanished many a summer ago, And left no trace but the cellar walls, And a cellar in which the daylight falls, And the purple-stemmed wild raspberries grow O'er ruined fences the grape-vines shield The woods come back to the mowing field; The orchard tree has grown one copse Of new wood and old where the woodpecker chops; The footpath down to the well is healed. 10

3 T – Title (Predict what the poem is about just by using Title.)
The poem could be about a house that is haunted by a ghost.

4 (Read Poem) P – Paraphrase/Summary (Tell about the parts of the poem you find difficult.) Someone lived in a tumbled down old abandoned house. This person has now died and now he watches the house decay a little more each day. There is a couple (male and female) that share the space with him. He is alone and they are together. He finds peace and comfort watching their companionship.

Ghost House by Robert Frost I Dwell in a lonely house I know That vanished many a summer ago, And left no trace but the cellar walls, And a cellar in which the daylight falls, And the purple-stemmed wild raspberries grow O'er ruined fences the grape-vines shield The woods come back to the mowing field; The orchard tree has grown one copse Of new wood and old where the woodpecker chops; The footpath down to the well is healed. 10

12 S – Shift Does the poem shift? Where and Why ?
The poem shifts from the narrator telling about himself and his abode in stanzas 1-3 to 4 – 5 where the narrator is telling about 2 sweet souls.

13 I dwell with a strangely aching heart
In that vanished abode there far apart On that disused and forgotten road That has no dust-bath now for the toad. Night comes; the black bats tumble and dart; 15 It is under the small, dim, summer star. How So? Ghost House by Robert Frost I Dwell in a lonely house I know That vanished many a summer ago, And left no trace but the cellar walls, And a cellar in which the daylight falls, And the purple-stemmed wild raspberries grow O'er ruined fences the grape-vines shield The woods come back to the mowing field; The orchard tree has grown one copse Of new wood and old where the woodpecker chops; The footpath down to the well is healed. 10

14 I think it may be symbolic for the longing he has for wife and son who died before him. Even if it is….. You would have to know a lot about the poet and his latter years to come up with that spin on the poem. The point of the poem still would be loneliness and isolation. T – Theme What point is the author trying to make? What is the theme of the poem? (life lesson) I think the poem is about loneliness and isolation. The need for companionship is eternal.
