The scorekeeper can keep a space for the side-out point, record the substitution, and then go back and fill in the space and make the appropriate marks in the running score. On her next attempt to serve, the East Libero commits a foot fault. West immediately requests and is granted a substitution: #6 enters for #13

This is not addressed in the rules or case manual. It is safe to say that the comment about illegal equipment with the score is sufficient documentation to explain the time out. The East coach requests and is granted a substitution. #12 enters for #6. East #12 is found to have earrings in her ears. The R1 issues an unnecessary delay.

33 RECORDING COMMENTS See p. 117 of Case Manual
Action – Player – Score (offending team first) Warning (Yellow Card) – PW #12 (7-6) Penalty (Red Card) – P1 #3 (7-0) Disqualification – DQ #10 (4-14) Illegal Equipment/Uniform: E #10 (9-9) Redesignated Libero: RL #10 (12-13) Exceptional Substitution: ES #20 (15-14) Progressive sanctions and sanctions in effect for the remainder of the match should be re-copied on scoresheets for all subsequent sets of the match. Progressive sanctions include: PW (penalty warning), DQ, equipment violation. Also carry over “unconscious player” comments to ensure player does not attempt to re-enter without written permission from a physician. No need to carry over exceptional substitution since it is limited to one set. When carrying over sanctions, include in which set the sanction occurred

PW HC would probably work just as well in order to save room. PW Head Coach (9-9) The East Head Coach is upset over the referee’s decision to issue an unnecessary delay, and she berates the R1. The R1 issues a warning (yellow card) to the East Head Coach.

There are no marks to make on the scoresheet, aside from recording the time-out. The illegal substitution does not count as one of the 18 allowable subs. More questions were raised about not making marks (T or Tx) on the sheet. Unlike the equipment violation, the illegal substitution is not marked anywhere on the scoresheet, so the resulting time out (due to unnecessary delay) seems to come from nowhere. A person reading over the set would not know why a time out was marked at without being marked in the scoring section as T or Tx. Some clinicians say that they will write illegal substitutions in the comments section. The rules do not say to mark illegal substitutions in the comments section, but to document the time out, it might not be a bad idea. PW Head Coach (9-9) 13-11 East #1 serves… for a side-out East requests and is granted a substitution: #8 enters the match for #1 The R1 issues an unnecessary delay to East.

Sideout point would be #11, then two serves are 12 and 13, so East coach is correct. -Perhaps there was not supposed to be a circle around point 11 (for the sideout point). In which case the score really is Assuming the scorekeeper is making circles for each serve and doesn’t miss a serve, then the former option is the likely scenario. Or perhaps the scorer or an official can remember how many times #1 served the ball. Y Head Coach (9-9) The East coach requests a score check. East believes the score should be 13-10, not What happened?

When the Libero leaves, the player whose # is slashed before the L must replace the Libero. Bearcats’ #12 replaces the Libero. Slash the L and write 12. The Libero must sit out one rally before re-entering the set unless they are to serve. The Libero Tracker should check that the Libero DOES NOT play the front row or serve in the wrong position. 14 A 2 4c 6 8 10 12 Recording libero being replaced. Remind libero trackers of the “libero sandwich” – that the number before the L on their tracking sheet must be the same as the number after the L. L 12

This animates the process as if the libero were to step off the court and then step back on the court. It shows the two replacements so trackers can see what they should record. 2

71 THE DOUBLE LIBERO SWITCH
18 16 6 L 8 10 12 This shows the double replacement in one movement. Make sure to highlight that the net result is the same (i.e. 6 is on the court, 16 is off the court, and the libero is on the court ready to serve). 2

If the Libero serves, the Libero tracker must also record the position in which the Libero served.. After three rotations, the Libero is about to rotate to the front row. Instead, the Libero moves to right back in the service position. #6 enters the court, and #16 exits the court. Slash L and write 6.
