5 A B C 'S you see the people who you like are not only just like you but they think like you do too- and the “other” people well they don’t think like you do at all!. You see Now what does the “a,b,C's” and knowing them have to do with working with people - everything - and I promise you unconditionally that if you stay with me mentally for the next hour and ten minutes I can promise you that you will never look at your relationship with anyone you work for, work along side of, have working for you, or for that matter live with in the same way again. Because what we have learned about that first group is that they not only look do and act like you do - they also think like you do - and that second group - the ones that are nothing like you - they not only look at life, dress and act nothing like you do - they also don’t think like you do either.

6 think shows up in everything we do”
“And how we think shows up in everything we do” “We think in predictable ways”

7 EVERYTHING our home… our decisions... our time… our work …
HOW WE THINK SHOWS UP IN EVERYTHING WE DO, OUR HOME, closets, if I was lost could I stay at your home? OUR TIME put off or right away, prioritize or procrastinate OUR DECISIONS, if it ain't broke don't fix it HOW WE DO WORK some people go at things one project at a time while others seem to want to keep multiple balls up in the air simultaneously. our work … our decisions...

8 EVERY ACTION Every action we take is based on if we THINK…
first left then right or first right then left OUR ACTIONS ARE BASED ON HOW WE THINK.. every action we take, every action we make, and as my old professor said “if I tell you three times you know I’m right” every action we take is based on whether we are more comfortable living on the left side of our brain or our right - and our research into psychology and behavior has taught us that under conditions of high stress, high anxiety, fast pace or great excitement ( which kind of sounds like this business doesn’t it?) we go to one side or another of our brain - what ever side we prefer and we hide there and dare anyone to take us out of there and what’s scary is that EVERY ACTION

9 SUCCESS OR FAILURE In how we judge others …
School … SUCCESS OR FAILURE In how we work with others … How we think will even determine if we will be a success or a failure… Because people like people who are just like them - go back, go back go back to being very young and tell me when is the first time that you were told by someone other then someone in your family - that you were smart? IN SCHOOL now how the heck at age 5,6,7 did our teacher know if we were smart or not - it’s because they tested us - Monday through Friday they would spoon feed us things like history, science, math and then on Friday after noon they would stick their fingers down our throat and if we could puke it back up onto the plate exactly like they gave it to us they would say “ooo you smart” but who were they really saying was smart - you because you got it or them because they knew how to teach you? If you thought like the teacher did you did well. IN HOW WE JUDGE OTHERS prejudging -in or out crowd based on a standard I have - me - so if you are like me you are cool HOW WE WORK WITH OTHERS like or dislike based upon how much like we they are QUALITY OF OUR RELATIONSHIPS In our relationships … In Our Relationships …

10 NO! NO! IS THERE A BEST-IST MOST CORRECT-IST WAY TO THINK? NO! NO! NO!
SO... IS THERE A RIGHT WAY TO THINK? no but school taught us there was, the teachers way, the left brain way - think about how we got an “A” pass or fail, think how school is based - logical sequential learning - teachers taught us utilizing a kind of pyramid logic everything built on what you had known before - think about how you learned history - first you learn prehistoric times, then biblical times - then roman times then dark ages, renaissance, industry revolution - logical and sequential - everything based on what you knew before - think about math - numbers, add, subtract, multiply, divide - wait teacher I’m still back on the multiply I don’t get it? You’re not as smart as the rest of the kids? Go to band. You see we were taught that... NO! NO! NO! NO!

11 Your Brain is a MUSCLE ! BRAINS ARE MUSCLES.
How do you make a muscle strong - get in shape through exercise - buy a Tammy Lee Webb tape and get your self a bun, AB, or thigh of steel - your goal should be to turn metal - go through one of those metal detectors butt naked and set the thing off - “how did he do that?” - “Well he has Buns of steel!” - see when we were growing up we were taught that your brain was a muscle - and how do you make a muscle strong - work it out - how - flash cards x2,3x3,4x4,5x5,6x6,7x7, faster faster - every night before dinner - or history, memorize the dates Columbus sailed the ocean blue, when was the war of 1812? What year was Christ born? English nouns pronouns adverbs verbs conjunctive participles, and diagramming sentences - now there is a useful skill - how many of you spent any time in the past week diagramming a sentence - but we passed or failed on the c=basis of whether we could or not…. BLANK show how kids are learning now

12 All the ways of thinking are correct !
ALL WAYS OF THINKING ARE CORRECT we just have a personal preference

13 Is there only one “correct” way to solve a problem?
NO! The result is the only thing that counts! IS THERE ONLY ONE CORRECT WAY TO SOLVE A PROBLEM? nope, left or right, either is cool. There are as many ways to attack a problem as there are people and the combinations of thinking that they have THE RESULT IS THE ONLY THING THAT COUNTS.

14 TAKE A TRIP! TAKE A TRIP. You know how to get from here to there don’t you - of course you do - you get out one of these (a map) if we are here and you want to go there the easiest way to get there is to go 196, to 96, to 131, to 80/90 to 115 etc - all very linear all very logical - that way works for 35% of the population and whether or not you use a map has nothing to do with whether or not you are a man or a woman - do you know how 65% of the population gets from here to there - they get out one of these ( a picture book) let’s see we could go here to there - now if it is 10am the time that you were supposed to arrive at your destination, and 100% of you are there does it matter if you used a map to get there or if you used the pictures to get there? What matters??? - that you are there using a straight line map or sight seeing, it doesn't matter as long as you arrive.

15 WE NEED TO GET OUR MINDS OFF THE PROCESS AND CONCENTRATE ON THE RESULT !
For the past forever we have been hung up on policy and procedure and rule and regulations , joint commission standard on this, review board rule on that, governmental code on this - but business has now changed TO REFLECT THE NEW THINKING AND THE NEW MENTALITY- rules and regulation are necessary but they are not as necessary as achieving the positive result - today innovation rules… creative thinking rules

16 So… how do you think? Let’s find out - I’d like to give you a simple test - now there are some basic rules - clear off your desk - and don’t start yet - there are 20 items on the test - you need to circle the one answer that is best for you - now there is no one who is going to see your score so please do your own work - there are 20 items on the test and I am going to give you three minutes to do them all - that means you have to do 6 per minute - fill out the test completely starting now…… are you on number 2 yet?” number 3? Circle the answer that is best for you., Now I will make you an unconditional guarantee - I Promise you that if you stay with me mentally for the next half hour you will never look at you relationships the same again. times up every go to the first page - the one that says “this is how I think” in the upper right hand corner write “A=“ and count how many time you selected “A” as the proper response for you on both pages and write that number there. Now statistics are a wonderful thing - I have learned that 65% of you have gone on to the next instruction without my having given it - while 35% of you are waiting for me to give the next instruction so for those of you who are good students write “B” in the upper right hand corner and count those -(pause) just don’t count the “C's” pops too late… now add the three together and they should magically equal - that’s right 20. Now everyone hold up there right hand “I do solemnly swear - that I will answer honestly the next question -” now by a show of hands let’s see how many had more “A”’s then anything else.Take a look at these people - these are the smart people. Now get yet your hands back up - how many signed there name even though I said you would not have to tell ? Did you also indicate your sex? Proud! Now how many had more B's then any thing else hands up tall and proud - these are the class clowns - been in trouble their whole life - keep holding up your hand if you ever played a musical instrument, participated in an organized sport or too a remedial class likes shop or home EC - notice this about the b people,l do you recall how I had to fight with the “A” people to keep there hands up? “B” people have been in trouble so much with the teacher that they will never put their hand down until the teacher says -” hands down” Do we have any C's? Statistically about 4% of the population. I’ll tell you what, I don’t want to embarrass you but I am a licensed therapist, and I’ll be talking with each of you individually later this afternoon.

17 Three types of consumers are driving all the changes happening in foodservice todsay - people like my Mom and maybe your folks, people over the age of 58, people we refer to as the matures… Boomers - those are the group that is my age bracket - age right now And the genration y group - your customers those under the age of 22. What we’ve learned about these people is that they act out of the way that they have been programmed to - programmed here

18 TAKE TRIPS - FIND YOUR KEYS - GIVE GIFTS - BUY PICTURES - ARRANGE YOUR HOME - LEARN STUFF - KEEP CLOSETS - MAKE RECIPES - RECALL DETAILS - HANDLE DISTRACTIONS - EXPRESS YOURSELF - GIVE DIRECTIONS - HANDLE ROUTINE JOBS - GO TO WORK - FACE MULTIPLE PROJECTS HOW DO YOU? A-B-C all function differently in the real world - I’m going to illustrate how the different thinking styles relate to behaviors in the world - and the best way to illustrate is by telling you that you and your family are going to be going to Orlando and you’ll be going there in 8 weeks.. - Orlando.

19 So… who’s correct? The a the b or the c - the answer….

20 Every way of doing something is the right way as long as it makes sense to you
We All Are!

21 It’s About PEOPLE

22 ONE PERSON IS HIGHLY ORGANIZED! ONE PERSON IS HIGHLY CREATIVE!
MYTH But we have been raised with this myth - one person highly organized - who ONE PERSON IS HIGHLY CREATIVE!

23 It’s About PEOPLE

24 ONE PERSON USES EXTERNALS! ONE PERSON USES INTERNALS!
FACT ONE PERSON USES INTERNALS!

25

26 Whether you are “A” or “B” ... FACE UP TO THE “P” WORD!

27 Procrastinate Procrastinate Procrastinate Procrastinate Procrastinate
Procrastination… For an “A” the act of doing something is doing something. For a “B” the act of thinking about it is doing it - just tell what I tell my boss - just waiting for all the latest research to come out. God bless A, B, C A’s = system or roads, taxes etc. B’s = never look at anything the same way twice, invented the 70’s C’s most of all = and they no why = whole brain, but watch out - find someone to talk to you too Procrastinate Procrastinate

28 The Power is in realizing that you are a little of each
