1. Borough Of Lawnside Single Stream Recycling
The Department of Public Works is introducing single-stream recycling to begin on Wednesday, September 5, This is now possible due to a new compactor truck just purchased by the Borough.
Borough residents will be asked to (1) combine all their recyclables in the same container, and (2) put grass clippings in an open container at curbside.
This new procedure will make recyclable collection much safer for our Public Works employees and will save significant taxpayer dollars.
Your tax dollars have allowed this process to move forward and opened the door for financial savings of $390,000 over the life of the new truck.
The department will assist residents as this transition progresses. Our goal is obviously 100%, however, we do understand that change can be a slow process.

4. What is Single Stream Recycling?
“Single Stream Recycling is a system that takes two recycling “streams” – paper and commingled containers – and puts them together in one bin.

5. In Other Words
All items that are acceptable for recycling can now be put together in one trash can that you can place at the curb for your regular assigned pickup days

6. What Happens to Your Recycled Trash
These commingled materials will be hauled to ReCommunity Recycling, a processing plant in Morris County specifically designed to mechanically separate the mixed materials so they may be sold and re-processed.

14. Important Recycling Tips
Empty and lightly rinse all containers.
DO NOT tie up newspapers and cardboard – just throw in the can.
Use a container with a lid to ensure that papers do not blow away.
Containers should not be larger than 32 gallons or over 50 lbs.
DO NOT put recyclables in plastic bags.

23. How are the materials separated?
Automated sorting equipment separates the comingled materials at the recycling facility. Quality control personnel are on duty to monitor the process. Once the materials are separated, they can be marketed to recyclers who make new products.

28. New procedure for grass clippings
Beginning September 5th, you must put grass clippings in an open container at curbside.
We will no longer pick up grass clippings left in plastic bags.
Please make sure grass clippings are free of sticks, rocks, and other debris.
