A singular noun names ONE person, place, or thing Examples: teacher, school, pencil

A plural noun names more than one person, place, or thing. Example: teachers, schools, pencils

Add –s to form the plural of most nouns. Examples: bird - birds tree - trees desk - desks friend - friends

Add –es to form the plural of nouns that end with s, sh, ch, or x. Examples: glass - glasses bush - bushes lunch - lunches box - boxes

To form the plural of nouns ending in a consonant and y, change the y to i and add –es. Examples: baby – babies family – families puppy - puppies

A possessive noun that shows who or what owns something. Possessive nouns must have an apostrophe (‘) and an “s”. Examples: Joe’s house Stephanie’s paper

Usually, the apostrophe (‘) comes before the “s” However, if the noun ends with an “s” you add the apostrophe after the “s.” Examples: The three girls’ bikes Jess’ hat
