8 Monitor and Clarify When something confuses you while you are reading…
You should stop to discuss the word or phrase that was confusing. You can talk about it with: *your teacher *your friend *your mom, dad, grandma or grandpa *spend time thinking it through

Good readers stop to figure out the difficult material.

24 Main Idea and Details… An author always has something specific to say to the reader. The author may state the main idea different ways, but the reader should always be able to tell what the writing is about. Details strengthen the main point. The author gives you details to help you understand the main idea.
