1 Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
12 Sept 2004

2 GREETING In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.

3 Penitential Rite My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries, let us call to mind our sins. I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault,

4 in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do; and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

5 May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

6 Opening Prayer Let us pray Almighty God, our creator and guide, may we serve you with all our heart and know your forgiveness in our lives. Amen

7 At the top of Mount Sinai, the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go down at
Liturgy of the Word First Reading (Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14) At the top of Mount Sinai, the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go down at once! Your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have acted perversely; they have been quick to turn

8 aside from the way that I
commanded them; they have cast for themselves an image of a calf, and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”‘ The Lord said to Moses, ‘I have seen this people, how stiff-necked they

9 are. Now let me alone, so that
my wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them; and of you I will make a great nation.’ But Moses implored the Lord his God, and said, ‘O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with

10 a mighty hand? Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, how you swore to them by your own self, saying to them, “I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.”‘ And the Lord

11 changed his mind about the
disaster that he planned to bring on his people.

12 The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

13 Responsorial Psalm R. I will rise and go to my father. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

14 R. I will rise and go to my father.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit with in me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.

15 R. I will rise and go to my father.
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

16 Second Reading (1 Timothy 1:12-17) I am grateful to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because he judged me faithful and appointed me to his service, even though I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a man of violence. But I received

17 mercy because I had acted
ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the foremost. But for that very

18 reason I received mercy, so that
in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display the utmost patience, making me an example to those who would come to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

19 The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

20 GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you Lord.

21 All the tax-collectors and sinners
were coming near to listen to him. And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, ‘This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.’ So he told them this parable: ‘Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-

22 nine in the wilderness and go
after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.” Just so, I tell you, there will

23 be more joy in heaven over one
sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance. ‘Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her

24 friends and neighbours, saying,
“Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.” Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.’

25 The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

26 Homily

27 Profession of Faith We believe in One God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father

28 God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father, Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven;

29 by the power of the Holy Spirit
he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures;

30 He ascended into Heaven and
is seated at the Right Hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

31 who proceeds from the Father
and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

32 We look for the resurrection of
the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

33 Prayer of the Faithful R. Lord, hear our prayer. For all Christians, continually learning what it means to be disciples, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer.

34 For people throughout the
world suffering setbacks in their search for peace, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer.

35 For those who suffer because
we refuse to see in them the potential for good, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer.

36 For this community, on its
journey of faith, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer.

37 Offertory Song

38 Liturgy of the Eucharist
Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.

39 May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his Church.

40 Prayer over the gifts Lord, hear the prayers of your people and receive our gifts. May the worship of each one here bring salvation to all. Amen.

41 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise.

42 PREFACE Father, all-powerful and ever- living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. Through his cross and resurrection he freed us from sin and death and called us to the

43 glory that has made us a chosen
race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people set apart. Everywhere we proclaim your mighty works, for you have called us out of darkness into your own wonderful light. And so, with all the choirs of angles in heaven,we proclaim your glory and join in their unending hymn of praise:

44 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of
power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

45 Eucharistic Prayer II Invocation of the Holy Spirit Lord, you are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

46 The Lord’ Supper Before he was given up to death, a death he freely accepted, he took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

47 “Take this, all of you, and eat it:
this is my body which will be given up for you.”

48 When supper was ended, he
took the cup. Again he gave you thanks and praise, gave the cup to his disciples, and said:

49 “Take this, all of you, and drink
from it, this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.”

50 Let us proclaim the mystery of
faith: When we eat this bread, When we drink this cup, We proclaim your glory Until you come again.

51 In memory of his death and
resurrection, we offer you, Father, this life-giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit.

52 For the Church Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love, together with our pope - John Paul II. Our bishop - Joseph Zen, John Tong, and all the clergy.

53 For the dead Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence.

54 In communion with the saints
Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the virgin Mother of God with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your Son, Jesus Christ.

55 In praise of God Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all glory and honor is yours almighty Father for ever and ever. Amen

56 COMMUNION RITE Lord’s prayer Let us pray with confidence to the Father in the words our Savior gave us.

57 Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

58 Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us. Lord from every evil and grant us peace in our day.

59 In your mercy keep us free from
sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever.

60 Sign of Peace Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles: I leave you peace, my peace I give you. Look not only our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom where you live for ever and ever. Amen

61 The peace of the Lord be with
you always. And also with you. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

62 Lamb of God…

63 Communion This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

64 Communion Antiphon When we break the bread, we share in the body of the Lord; when bless the cup, we share in the blood of Christ.

65 Pray After Communion Lord, may the eucharist you have given us influence our thoughts and actions. May your Spirit guide and direct us in your way.
