SS5H6: Explain the reasons for America’s involvement in World War II. Describe Germany’s aggression in Europe and Japanese aggression in Asia. Describe major events in the war in both Europe and the Pacific; include Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, D-Day, VE and VJ Days, and the Holocaust. Discuss President Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Identify Roosevelt, Stalin, Churchill, Hiroto, Truman, Mussolini, and Hitler. Describe the effects of rationing and the changing role of women and African Americans; including ”Rosie the Riveter” and the Tuskegee Airmen. Explain the U.S. role in the formation of the United Nations.

4 Causes of the War 2. Rise of Dictators and Fascism
a. Economic Depression, especially in Germany, made the citizens feel desperate for help. Adolph Hitler provided the “hope” Germans were looking for. He primarily blamed Jews for Germany’s problems. Hitler lead The National Socialists, or Nazis, which brought fascism to Germany. b. Benito Mussolini brought fascism to Italy. c. Prime Minister, Hideki Tojo brought a militaristic government to Japan under the Emperor, Hirohito.
