All definitions are from the NFHS Rule Book The “Slot” is the recommended position Every pitch has a verbal call, EXCEPTIONS: a swinging strike an obvious foul ball

High School Softball Strike Zone Batter’s Responsibility The batter has 10 seconds to take her position in the batter’s box after the ball has been returned to the pitcher to prepare for the next pitch. (7-3-1) Penalty is a strike called on the batter. (7-3-1 penalty) 20 second clock starts

The strike zone is the space over home plate which is between the batter’s forward armpit and the top of the knees when the batter assumes a natural batting stance. Any part of the ball passing through the strike zone in flight shall be constituted a strike. The umpire shall determine the batter’s strike zone according to the batter’s usual stance when swinging at a pitch.
