2 Definition of a serial killer
A serial killer is a person who murders usually three or more people with a "cooling off" period between each murder and whose motivation for killing is largely based on psychological gratification.

3 background Charles was born in Hong Kong on
December 24th 1960 to a wealthy business man He lived in Hong Kong and was expelled from various schools which led to him going to England for the remainder of his high school carrier Ng then went to Notre Dame College in Belmont California

4 History Charles was expelled from schools for shop lifting and stealing, he then dropped out of college after one year to join the military Charles escaped from the military and shot an officer and was sentenced to 14 years in jail Charles then escaped from jail he met a man named Leonard Lake…

Who / when : Leonard Lake and Charles Ng met somehow after Charles escaped from jail Where : They resorted back to Lakes ranch in Calaveras County, California What: Charles alone killed 11 people; 6 men 3 women and 2 baby boys Why: Charles had a rough childhood which led to adult anger and resulted in becoming a serial killer.

6 How they got caught “The killings came to an end only through chance.” Having broken the vice they were using to torture their victims, Lake and Ng drove into town to get a replacement. The clerk at the lumberyard spotted Ng trying to shoplift the vice and called the police. When they arrived, Ng had departed on foot. Upon being arrested, Lake gave the police the name of his partner and then swallowed two cyanide pills he had taped to the collar of his shirt, went into a coma and died 4 days later.

7 “fun” facts When they caught the men they found 6 men, 3 women, and 3 baby bodies along with 45 pounds of human bones indicating there were at leas 25 others killed They also found the tapes of the men raping, torturing and killing the victims Charles is still alive today—on death row at San Quentin State Prison in California

9 The trial He was convicted on February 11, 1999 of 11 of the murders, those of six men, three women and two baby boys, and was sentenced to death. Ng's trial was lengthy and cost the state approximately $14 million, which remains the most expensive trial in California state history. He is currently on death row at San Quentin State Prison in California.
