1 Plant Reproduction

2 Two Forms of Plant Reproduction
Sexual Reproduction Asexual Reproduction Meiosis + Fertilization Mitosis + Vegetative Propagation

3 Sexual Reproduction In Plants

4 Sexual reproduction occurs in many kinds of plants in different ways
Sexual reproduction occurs in many kinds of plants in different ways. Some plants form pollen that fertilizes eggs in the flower or cone, others produce spores.

5 Angiosperms reproduce using their flower structure:

6 The petals attract insects and birds to encourage pollination.
The stigma, style, and ovary make up the female structure – the pistil. The ovary houses the ovules (eggs) before and after fertilization The anther and filament make up the male structure – the stamen - that produces the pollen.

7 When the ovary ripens it becomes fruit – that contains the seeds.

8 Seed

9 In conifers, the plant produces male and female cones – male cones contain pollen, while female cones bear eggs.

10 In ferns, sexual reproduction takes place by the production of spores that fertilize eggs in alternating generations of the plant’s life cycle.

11 Asexual Reproduction

12 Some plants have special structures for vegetative propagation . . .
Most plants can also reproduce new plants through asexual reproduction – also called vegetative propagation – where new plants grow from a piece of the old plant. Some plants have special structures for vegetative propagation . . .

13 Reproductive Structure Description of Structure
Plants with these Structures tubers under-ground storage stems, develop new shoots after dormant season potatoes rhizomes under-ground runners that develop into new plant irises stolens above-ground runners that grow roots of their own then develop into new plant strawberries bulbs underground storage units that grow into many new plants via division amaryllis corms resemble bulbs but with enlarged, solid stem for food storage gladiolus, crocus
