2. This week’s medal challenge:
To learn the parts of the body in French.
Bronze – join in the song with actions and words in French
Silver – same as before and label some bodyparts in French.
Gold – all the above and write 8 bodypart words perfectly from memory

3. How do the medals work?
If an athlete from your adopted nation wins a gold, silver or bronze medal in any event, you get 3, 2 or 1 points.
By completing a ‘medal challenge’
(such as the previous slide) you can get extra points for your nation.
Your class will need to keep a chart to track each nations medals/points.

You can download this lovely simple video with authentic french sound from youtube to play offline easily as before by using realplayer on a computer that does have youtube access before the lesson from
Then encourage the children to make & label their own pictures using images of athletes as they appear in the news during the olympics.
faces – they could also do this as a collage as a fun homework activity – then label together in class copying the words from the board or using dictionaries as support. Those who need more support with writing could be given preprinted labels to glue on, while the more able can write their own (and any really gifted/talented can write from memory – literacy objective to copy single words correctly

Go through saying each word (use soundfile on previous slide if support needed) and ask class to repeat and point to the part of the body as you say it and they repeat it.
Why do they think some words are red and some are in blue (answer masculine/feminine nouns) which ones are plural? (ones beginning with les)

Here are the words from the song again – this time in a format that should appeal to the boys – this way we have an excuse to sing the same song again later in the week/unit – also you can use the version in TakeTen en Français if you have this resource – there is a cd and dvd that go with it.

17. X O X O X O O X
Now lets play noughts and crosses (le morpion) in French on the whiteboard/projector using the same parts of the body we heard in the song. Divide the class into two teams – one will be o’s, the other will be x’s.
Eg: If a child from the x team puts up their hand and says ‘les yeux’ – as the eyes are in the top left corner, then the teacher or the child can then draw an x over that picture. The other team take a turn and if they are correct with their chosen picture draw an ‘o’ over it, and so on until a team makes a row of three. X O

18. ACTIVITY: Body Parts Dribble
Pairs of players start at one side of a large playing area.
The first player dribbles a ball out to the far side of the playing area then performs a turn before dribbling back to stop the ball on the starting line for their partner.
Partner repeats performing the same turn.
After a few goes each demonstrate a different type of turn for the players to perform. Players repeat dribble & turn sequence using the new turn (techniques could include: drag back turn, inside/outside of the foot cut, Cruyff turn…)
As players continue the coach can then shout out a body parts in French & whoever is dribbling the ball at that time has to stop & place that body part on the ball as quickly as possible.
On a signal from the coach, players then carry on.
