Working with Files and Folders The library is a place where you can go to learn about yourself and the world around you. With so many books to choose, how do you know where to look? Quit SCT100

Dewey Decimal System Working with Files and Folders Animation – Books move to a shelf location (category) A man named Dewey, who once worked in a library, created a system of numbers to put books in order so you can easily find them. It’s called the Dewey Decimal System. Quit SCT100

Call Numbers Working with Files and Folders 000’s 100’s 200’s 300’s 400’s 500’s 600’s 700’s 800’s 900’s 538 621 775 Animation – numbers appear Dewey grouped books into ten areas by subject. Each subject has secret codes or “call numbers” for finding books. You can find a book from its call number. For example, you can find a book with a call number of 538 in the 500’s area. Quit SCT100

Applied Science and Useful Arts The cave man used what he learned about fire to make tools. He learned about plants to create food, medicine, etc... The 600’s have books using nature to create things to make the world a better place. The 600’s have things from the 500’s that man made to work for him, such as cars, boats, planes, cookbooks, computers, pets, farm animals, and medicine. Quit
