2005 – 2008: 2005 Ecodesign Directive 2005/32/EC
2009 – 2011: The 1st Ecodesign Working Plan ( )
37 preparatory studies

17 implementing measures adopted (savings: approx. 380 TWh)
(12 ecodesign + 5 energy labelling) + 1 tyre labelling legislation directive on hot-water boilers

7. How can we improve the situation?
(Too ambitious?) planning in the past
More reliable planning that takes into account available resources as well as ongoing activities
(Complex?) preparatory & adoption procedure
The study on the revision of the Ecodesign Directive will assess the procedure and identify its weakest points
Setting tighter ecodesign requirements for a longer time period (e.g. BAT as Tier III)
Fast track procedure for the expected reviews
(Significant?) increase of implementing and communication activities
Outsourcing of non-legislative tasks (e.g. communication – ‘helpdesk’)
Reinforced standardisation process (e.g. NGOs, NA consultants)
Better support to and follow-up of national market surveillance activities
Support of other actors: EACI, JRC, Member States and stakeholders
