2. How many main sections are there in this library?
Basically, we have three main sections in the library that students can go to!
Easy Section
Non-fiction Section
Fiction

3. Easy Section
Easy books are books that have lots of pictures and have easier words.
Easy to read books have a call number of “E” in our library. A call number is the white tag on the spine of a book that shows us where that book is located in the library.

4. Easy Section
The Easy Section is located on the far right wall by the big windows.
Easy books are shelved using the first three letters of the author’s last name-. Ex: “Polar Express” would have a call number like this:
E (Easy Section)
Van (Van Allsburg, Chris – author)

5. Fiction
Fiction books are books that are imaginary. Someone thought up the story and put it down on paper.
Fiction books usually do not have as many pictures as Easy books.
Fiction Books have a call number of “F” or “Fic” in our library.
Fiction Books are shelved using the first three letters of the author’s last name. Ex: Junie B. Jones would have a call number like this:
F (fiction section) Par (Park, Barbara-author)

6. Biographies
Biographies are books that give us information about someone’s life.
Biographies are located in the non-fiction section with a call number of 921.
Biographies are located by the fiction section.
Example: A biography of Martin Luther King
921 (Section to look for)
Kin (Kin for King..not the author, but who it is about!

7. Non-Fiction
Non-fiction books are informational books about real things, people, places, etc. (This is also the section that has fairy tales even though they are not informational!)
These books are located on the left side of the library against the walls.
This section is where you would find books on how to make a model plane, learn how to paint, learn about dinosaurs, plants, bugs, planes, etc.

8. More Non-Fiction Info..
Non-Fiction books have a call number using numbers of the Dewey Decimal System.
Example:
Bur
What does the mean? This is the Dewey Decimal Number. (Mr. Dewey was the man who made up the Dewey Decimal System!)
What does the “Bur” mean? That is the author’s first three letters of his last name.

9. Dewey Decimal System
The Dewey Decimal System is arranged by numbers starting from 000 to the 900’s. (another class on this later!)
Generalities (Computers, newspapers, etc.)
100’s Philosophy & Psychology
200’s Religion
300’s Social Sciences (community, politics, etc)
400’s Language
500’s Natural Science & Mathematics
600’s Technology (Applied Science)
700’s The Arts
800’s Literature (poetry, drama, speeches, etc.)
900’s Geography & History

10. This is what you can check out!
There may be a few more, but they are not for students to check out. The other items that students can check out are books with the following types of call numbers
“Fic” or “F”
“E”
Numbers like
PB “Fic” “F” or “E”
